HOT PINK CIRCLE - This sticker will be located on the spine of the book and will have a number written on it. This number is the Accelerated Reader (AR) Reading Level. Students will receive their ZPD range by taking STAR assessments in their Language Arts class. In order for their AR test on a book to count towards their grade, the reading level of the book must fall in their ZPD range. According to the Accelerated Reading website, the "ZPD identifies books at the right level to provide optimal reading challenge without frustration."
NEON GREEN CIRCLE - This sticker will be located on the top of the spine of the book and will have a number written on it. This sticker indicates that this book is a part of a series and tells where the book falls in that series.
ORANGE CIRCLE - Our older books have these stickers, which tell how many points a book is worth. Since we want students picking books based on their level, not points, I quit using these a few years ago. The point information can be found on the inside at the front of the book or by looking the book up on Destiny (our library system).
YOUNG ADULT/YA - This sticker is rectangular and will be located on the front of the book. The sticker serves as a sort of advisory system, kind of like movie rating designations. The YA sticker could indicate there is violence, questionable language or content that might be considered mature. If you have any questions or concerns about why a book has a YA sticker, please feel free to contact me.
